Coming Soon in 2013

The Princess Hair Piece

This past fall and then again in Dec. I was asked to make a Rapunzel hair piece for 2 of my friends daughters. Since I don't have a little girl I usually get all giddy when I get asked to make something for one. I just love how they turned out. I was even more excited when one of those friends is a photographer and I had asked her if she would be so kind to take a couple photos for me to share. So I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Leslie with Eisells Imagery for the beautiful photos. She does some amazing work. If you get a chance stop by her Facebook page and take a look.

The actual head piece is made custom to your child's head size and height. This particular piece had a finishing length of almost 4 ft long. The flowers are secured in with a strong fabric glue. You can also get the hair piece in black, dark brown, light brown, or yellow, with your choice of flower colors. They will also come in 2 sizes one that will almost go to the floor and one that will go just paste the waist line.

They will be featured as Princess Hair Pieces so that every little girl can  have her own long thick princess hair. The hair pieces are made from 100% acrylic yarn. However you can make a special request for another type of yarn.
I am taking pre-orders so if you wish to order your princess hair piece now please email me or message me on FB and I will get your order started. Otherwise look for these in my ETSY Shop coming in Spring of 2013!!!!

My First Apron!!!

Well its finished and I just had to share!!!

For those that may have missed Friday's Post here is a quick recap. In the beginning of the month a friend of mine had asked me to sew up a few things for a kitchen set that she is building for her daughter. I did a hot pad, oven mitt, curtain panels, and this apron. I didn't have a pattern to follow so I cut it out of paper and then cut my fabric according to the paper pieces I cut. Other than the fleece hats I had sewn for the craft fair in November this is the closest I have come so far to wearable garments.

I will be doing a tutorial on this apron coming up in early 2013 and I will also be selling the oven mitt, hot pad, and apron sets in my shop coming up sometime in 2013 as well. I would love to know what colors and fabrics you would like to see them in or is this something that would consider buying for your little girl, niece, or granddaughter. I have also been thinking about coming up with a more manly style and making some boy sets.

The oven mitt and hot pads are insulated so that when they get older they can help mom and dad in the kitchen.

WIP - Kitchen Play Set

My Latest WIP
The last of my Christmas orders.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine approached me and asked me if I could help her with a Christmas project for her young daughter. Of course I jumped at the chance to sew something for a little girl. So last week we went shopping for fabric to match the kitchen set that she was up cycling out of an old entertainment center. I would love to have a little girl to do this with but it was awesome being able to be part of this project none the less.

So last week we went shopping for some fabric and she already had in mind what she wanted. Let me tell you this makes projects so much easier when you know what your customer wants to work with. So she had picked out the zebra fabric for her little girl with a dark purple trim. We had picked out this awesome ruffled ribbon along with a small section of dark purple satin that is being used as an accent on the main piece.

So the first 2 things I finished were the hot pad and oven mitt. I have to admit after they were done I wanted to make a pair for myself. Both the oven mitt and the hot pad are insulated so that she can use it later in life when she is helping mom in the kitchen.

Next on my list were 2 small curtain panels. Once again for this I used the zebra print and the purple ribbon trim for an accent. As you can see in the picture I am only showing one. I actually just finished the other one while I was writing this and my battery on the camera is charging. I will make sure to show a finished photo with both panels.

Last on my list is an apron. I am so excited about this. It is my first real garment type project. Like I said I will be sure to post final pictures of the entire project after it's completion. For the entire project I decided to create all my own patterns to cut the fabric out from. Keeping in mind that I just started sewing this year, I think that I have shown a bit of improvement over this past year.

I am hoping to have the hot pad, oven mitt, and apron set on sale in my ETSY Shop my mid 2013. I would love to hear your thoughts on this project.

Remember to have a creative, safe, and fun holiday season

A very WHITE Christmas!!!

My Winter Wonderland!!!

There is the most amazing sound of crisp silence after a snowstorm. You step outside in the early brisk morning and gaze upon the freshly fallen untouched snow that has blanketed your town. I think it is one of the most beautiful things to see. However the beauty comes to end when the clean up starts. HAHA. Now we are trying to dig ourselves out of 16 inches of snow. Well I should say the hubby is digging us out.

As things resume back to normal with the hustle and bustle of the last minute Christmas shopping, gift wrapping, and cookie making I sit here and wish I could go back to those few minutes I stood at the door this morning gazing upon the angelic beauty that will now give us our White Christmas. It has been many years since we have had a white Christmas like this. I look forward to watching my little one play outside during his first official Christmas Break.

This past year has been an amazing year. Earlier this month Smalltown Dreamz Celebrated its 1 year Anniversary. I can't believe how much writing for my 2 blogs has changed my life. It has been the most positive and rewarding thing I think I have ever done for myself, however without the love and support of my fans I honestly think this wouldn't have been possible. So for that I wanted to thank you.

I can't wait to see what 2013 will bring. Here is what you can expect to see from me.

New Projects
New Patterns
More Giveaways and so much MORE!!!!!

I hope that you and your families have an amazing Christmas and Holiday Season!!

Leap Pad Wall Hanging Tote Bag

This year Good old St. Nick brought our little one a leapfrog Leap pad. This past summer I had won a $40.00 Gift Certificate to Sew Fresh Fabrics from a giveaway sponsored by Plum and June. I used my Certificate to purchase a half yard of 123-abc-by-alexander-henry, a half yard bundle of Woodlands Inspired Kona Bundle, and a charm pack of Lucy's Crab Shack by Sweetwater for Moda
that I will use for a separate project.

So I wanted to share what I made with the abc fabric and some of the Kona. I wanted something to help keep his new toy organized and off the floor. For the most part when I sew I never have a pattern or a template I just make it up as I go along.

I knew that I wanted some sort of close able pocket. I had never sewn in a zipper before so I took a piece of scrap fabric I had laying around and practiced first. I actually like the little pencil bag I mad so much that I stuffed some new crayons in it and used it as a stocking stuffer.

Once again I was able to use my new bias tape maker for the cartridge holder.

Then I just used some buttons as some extra embellishments.

I was so happy to have had a chance to make something like this for our little guy. I hope you all have a great holiday season.
